Safety Tips

Meeting new people online is an exciting step toward finding your person, but your safety, both online and offline, should always be your top priority. We’ve built Synglee with industry-leading safety features, but we also encourage you to follow these essential guidelines.

Protecting Yourself Online

  • Keep Conversations on the App: Don’t move to text, WhatsApp, or other messaging platforms too quickly. Synglee’s messaging system is encrypted and allows us to monitor for abusive behavior or scams. If someone immediately asks for your phone number, be cautious.
  • Protect Your Personal Information: Never share sensitive details such as your social security number, home address, workplace details, or daily routine with someone you haven’t met.
  • Never Send Money: Never respond to a request to send money, wire funds, or provide financial information, even if the person claims to be in an emergency. If another user asks for money, report them immediately.
  • Verify Their Identity: Look for the Synglee “Verified” badge. If you have doubts, request a quick voice chat before meeting in person.

Meeting in Person

  • Meet in Public: Always arrange your first few dates in populated, public places like a coffee shop, restaurant, or park. Never agree to meet at your home, their home, or an isolated location.
  • Provide Your Own Transportation: Be in control of your own arrival and departure. Drive yourself, take public transit, or use a ride-share app. Do not accept a ride from your date until you fully trust them.
  • Tell a Friend: Always tell a trusted friend or family member who you are meeting, where you are going, and when you expect to return. Consider sharing your live location with them via your phone.
  • Watch Your Drinks: Keep your beverage with you at all times. Do not accept a drink unless you saw it poured by the bartender or server directly.
  • Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off, or if your date is making you uncomfortable, leave the situation. You do not owe anyone your time or a polite explanation if you feel unsafe. Ask a bartender or server for help if you need an exit strategy.

Reporting Bad Behavior

Synglee is a community built on respect. If someone violates our boundaries, we want to know about it. You can and should report users who:

  • Ask you for money or donations.
  • Send harassing, offensive, or threatening messages.
  • Behave inappropriately during an in-person date.
  • Have a fake profile or use someone else’s photos.

To report a user, simply go to their profile, tap the three dots in the top right corner, and select “Report User.” All reports are kept strictly confidential.
